This section amends Section 1332 of Title 28, United States Code, related to minimum amount in controversy for diversity jurisdiction. The minimum amount in controversy is increased from $75,000 to $150,000, subject to inflation adjustments. Inflation adjustments will occur every ten years, starting January 1, 2030, based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The CPI adjustment will be calculated based on the change from September of the year preceding the last adjustment to September 2025 for the initial adjustment. The Director of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts will determine and publish the adjustment amount in the Federal Register. If a plaintiff recovers less than the adjusted minimum amount, the district court may deny costs to the plaintiff and impose costs on the plaintiff.
