This section amends Section 412 of the Agricultural Research, Extension, and Education Reform Act of 1998. It establishes a Specialty Crop Mechanization and Automation Research and Development Program to increase the competitiveness of specialty crops through advancements in mechanization and automation. The Secretary is authorized to award competitive grants to eligible entities for projects focused on reducing manual labor, improving worker safety, and increasing efficiency in specialty crop production. Priority for grants will be given to projects addressing farmworker training and those with mechanisms to communicate results to producers and the public. For fiscal years 2026 through 2031, the Secretary must reserve at least $30,000,000 of funds for this program. Technical and conforming amendments are made to several related sections of the National Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching Policy Act of 1977 and the Department of Agriculture Reorganization Act of 1994.
