It defines 'Federal law enforcement officer' as having the meaning given in section 1515 of Title 18. The United States is liable if a Federal law enforcement officer, or someone acting under their direction, deprives an individual of constitutional or statutory rights during an immigration-related enforcement action. This liability applies regardless of whether the officer's actions aligned with official policy. Monetary damages are paid by the Federal agency employing the officer. Section 2675(a) does not apply to civil actions authorized under this section. If the United States is found liable, the claimant is awarded $2,000,000 in punitive damages. This section does not limit other available legal remedies against individuals.
