The Secretary must ensure appropriate geographic distribution of the centers. A peer review panel, established by the Under Secretary for Health, will assess the scientific and clinical merit of proposals for new centers. The Under Secretary for Health is required to submit an annual report to the Senate and House Committees on Veterans’ Affairs detailing the activities and findings of the centers. There are authorized appropriations of $30,000,000 annually to support research and education activities at these centers. ’Covered conditions’ include anxiety, bipolar disorder, chronic pain, depression, Parkinson’s disease, post-traumatic stress disorder, and substance use disorder, among others. ’Innovative therapies’ include MDMA, 5-MeO-DMT, ibogaine, ketamine, and psilocybin, among others.
