What does NATIONAL DIABETES PROJECT. of National Diabetes Project Act do?

This section establishes the National Diabetes Project (referred to as the “Project”) within the Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The Project is responsible for creating and maintaining an integrated national plan to overcome diabetes and coordinating diabetes research and services across federal agencies. The Secretary of Health and Human Services, or their designee, is tasked with accelerating diabetes treatments, improving early diagnosis and care coordination, and ensuring inclusion of at-risk populations. An Advisory Council on Diabetes Research, Care, and Services is established, comprised of federal and non-federal experts. The Advisory Council will provide advice to the Secretary and submit an annual report to Congress, including evaluations of federally funded programs and recommendations for priority actions. The Secretary must annually assess the nation’s progress in preparing for the escalating burden of diabetes. Agencies are required to share data related to diabetes with the Secretary to facilitate reporting. The Project is set to expire on December 31, 2036.
