Women who develop preeclampsia face an elevated risk of long-term cardiovascular complications.

What does GUIDANCE ON MEDICAID COVERAGE OF PREECLAMPSIA SCREENING AND of PREEMPT Act do?

This section amends Title XIX of the Social Security Act to establish guidance and technical assistance regarding Medicaid coverage of preeclampsia screening and detection tests. The Secretary is required to issue guidance within 180 days of enactment to States and Medicaid managed care organizations on best practices for improving outcomes for pregnant women with preeclampsia. The guidance will address tests for early detection of preeclampsia that may be furnished as medical assistance, including biomarker tests. The Secretary must provide technical assistance to States upon request regarding whether a State plan or child health plan can provide medical assistance for specific preeclampsia detection tests. The bill clarifies that requesting or receiving technical assistance is not a condition for providing medical assistance or receiving federal financial participation. The Secretary will consider advanced biomarker tests for preeclampsia detection, including those regulated under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act or certified under the Public Health Service Act.
