What does TEMPORARY REAUTHORIZATION OF DISABILITY INSURANCE DEMONSTRATION of Removing Barriers to Work for Disabled Americans Act do?

This section amends the Social Security Act to reauthorize demonstration authority for the disability insurance program. Section 234(d)(2) of the Social Security Act is amended to extend the termination date of disability insurance demonstration projects from December 31, 2022, to December 31, 2031. Section 234(c) of the Social Security Act is amended to extend the authority to waive compliance with benefits requirements from December 30, 2021, to December 31, 2030, and increases the period for benefits from 90 days to 120 days. The amendments require the inclusion of evaluation metrics with respect to demonstration projects. Section 201(k) of the Social Security Act clarifies that administrative expenditures for demonstration projects are paid from funds available for the administration of the title and benefits are paid from the Federal Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund or the Federal Disability Insurance Trust Fund. Section 234(e) is amended to add a provision ensuring that an individual's total income will not be reduced due to participation in a demonstration project. Technical amendments are made to section 234, including striking 'subsection' and inserting 'section' and removing subsection (f). The amendments made by this section take effect on January 1, 2027.
