This Act is formally titled the Survival Aid For Emergencies through Medicare Act or the SAFE through Medicare Act.

What does MEDICARE COVERAGE OF MEDICALLY NECESSARY HOME RESILIENCY of SAFE through Medicare Act do?

This section amends the Social Security Act to cover home resiliency services for Medicare beneficiaries who are medically at-risk in the event of a climate or manmade disaster. The amendment adds a new subsection to define home resiliency services and the process for determining individuals who are medically at-risk. Home resiliency services include items and services furnished to individuals who are vulnerable to extreme temperatures, reliant on electrical medical equipment, or require energy efficient storage for medical supplies. The Secretary, in consultation with other agencies, shall establish a process to determine the conditions under which an individual would be considered medically at-risk. Payment for home resiliency services shall be 100 percent of the lesser of the actual charge or the amount determined under a fee schedule established by the Secretary.
