This section amends the Foreign Service Act of 1980 to require STEM training for Foreign Service officers. The Secretary of State, through the Director of the George P. Shultz National Foreign Affairs Training Center, is tasked with establishing and conducting training on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) matters. The training will cover topics such as artificial intelligence, next-generation communications, technological advancements in different regions, and how these topics affect diplomacy. The training will also address how the United States can utilize STEM as a diplomatic tool and how adversaries use technology to undermine U.S. diplomacy. A condensed training curriculum will be established. The training described in paragraph (1) will be included in the A-100 course for Foreign Service officers. Existing Foreign Service officers who have completed the A-100 course must complete either the full or condensed STEM training within 18 months or 270 days, respectively, after the Tech Diplomacy Training Act's enactment. The required STEM training is in addition to and separate from other required Foreign Service training.
