This section establishes a National and Regional Greenways Program administered by the Secretary of Transportation. The program provides grants to eligible organizations for improving or constructing safe and connected greenway paths between communities. The Secretary will establish a national greenway paths network containing regionally or nationally significant greenway paths that meet specific criteria, such as crossing multiple jurisdictions or reducing vehicle trips. Eligible organizations include local governments, multi-county districts, states, multi-state groups of governments, and Indian Tribes. Grant applications require submission of information as determined by the Secretary, and projects located on federal land require a cooperative agreement.
