What does GRANT PROGRAM. of Restoring Trust in Public Safety Act do?

This section establishes a grant program administered by the Attorney General to support firearm destruction activities. Eligible entities include States, Tribal governments, or units of local government, or any law enforcement agency thereof. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis, not later than 180 days after appropriation. Applicants must describe how they will use the grant for firearm destruction, identify community partners, certify complete firearm destruction, and maintain records of destroyed firearms. Grantees may award subgrants to local governments or law enforcement agencies. Grants will have a duration of two years. Grantees and subgrantees must develop and maintain written policies and provide documented proof of firearm destruction. Funds can be used for equipment purchase/maintenance, contracts for destruction services, and staff training. No more than 10 percent of grant funds can be used for administrative costs. One-third of appropriated funding is set aside for grants to applicants representing small urban and rural areas. A total of $15,000,000 is authorized for appropriation for each fiscal year from 2026 through 2031.
