What does MARINE ENERGY ACCELERATION. of Marine Energy Technologies Acceleration Act do?

This section establishes the Marine Energy Acceleration Fund (Fund) within the Department of Energy. The Fund is authorized to receive up to $1,000,000,000, to remain available until expended. The Secretary of Energy is directed to conduct competitive solicitations for at least twenty marine energy demonstration projects that export power to microgrids, community grids, or utility-scale grids. Priority for demonstration projects will be given to those integrating marine energy with existing infrastructure, open water prototype testing, and projects supporting energy resilience in rural, remote, Tribal, and low-income communities. The Secretary shall also conduct competitive solicitations for research and development projects to advance marine energy technologies and upgrades to research facilities. The Secretary, in coordination with NOAA and BOEM, will assess the economic potential of marine energy at up to 50 sites. A task force will be convened to identify and recommend improvements to the regulatory process for marine energy projects. The Secretary will conduct a national assessment of the prospective marine energy workforce and develop workforce development programs.
