What does GUN SAFETY TECHNOLOGY PILOT PROGRAM. of Advancing Gun Safety Technology Act do?

This section establishes a Gun Safety Technology Pilot Program authorized by the Attorney General, acting through the Director of the National Institute of Justice. The program provides grants to eligible entities to develop gun safety technology. The purpose of the program is to support the commercialization of technology that reduces the likelihood of accidental or unauthorized gun use. Eligible entities must submit an application detailing their commitment and plans for developing gun safety technology, including an initial product design. The Attorney General will award between 3 and 5 grants under the program. Grant recipients are required to report milestones related to the development of the technology, including prototype building, reliability testing, and commercialization planning. The program is authorized $10,000,000 for fiscal year 2026.
